Exploring Walton-On-The-Naze
Situated on the Essex coastline is Walton-On-The-Naze, a place that embodies the essence of a traditional seaside, where time almost slows down, and the simple pleasures take center stage. Whether you're wanting to relax by the sea, enjoy some nostalgia, or take a walk through history, this charming coastal town offers everything.
The Naze, in case you're curious, is a peninsula or "ness" of land, where seals have made their home, situated just above sea level. It curves gracefully into the North Sea, resembling a beckoning finger, inviting the waves to dance upon its shores. As far as coastal spots go, it stands as the unassuming counterpart to its neighbouring Frinton-on-Sea, adorned with quaint bric-a-brac shops, charming cafes, and vendors selling buckets and spades, along with the nostalgic echo of nearby arcades. Unique attractions like the Naze Tower allow you to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and the surrounding countryside from the top, further adding to its allure. With everything wrapped in a nostalgic 1950s ambiance, it feels seemingly untouched by the concerns of climate change, as if that worry belonged to a distant future.
Walton-On-The-Naze wasn’t a place that I’d visited before, surprisingly. With colourful beach huts lining the promenade, it was nice to amble around with my Fuji X100, and absorb many of those traditional seaside pleasures, embracing the nostalgia that lingers in the salty sea air.
