Exploring Sizewell
Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Suffolk lies the unique and captivating landscape of Sizewell. As you arrive at this somewhat isolated spot, the salty breeze brushes against your face and the rhythmic sound of crashing waves fills the air. Known for the silhouette of a Nuclear Power Station, this is a location that just sings to both amateur and professional photographers alike to capture its distinctive blend of natural beauty and human ingenuity. I’ve visited Sizewell for many years and I just love the raw coastal charm that it offers.
There is always something that catches my eye, from the unique juxtaposition of man-made engineering to the general untamed coastal allure that this spot offers. The cooling towers that reside out to sea are a particular favourite for those that are into long exposure photography.
I must admit that the images in this blog almost didn’t happen at all. It was a muggy Wednesday afternoon and it looked like rain was approaching. Initially, my intention was to indulge in a small dip into the sea (well, to a maximum of knee height at least), leaving my camera behind. I left the house and could see that quite a moody sky was approaching. I decided to walk back and grab my Fuji X100. Places like Sizewell seem to come alive in the bleakest of conditions, revealing their true charm. The overcast sky casted a moody ambiance over the landscape, enhancing the raw beauty of the my surroundings on arrival. There was a rhythmic persistence to the waves, their frothy crests contrasting against a slate gray backdrop.
Looking through my images, I’m so glad that I had heeded the call of my inner photographer. Despite coming here numerous times, I found myself completely immersed in a captivating world of small wonders, appreciating the hidden beauty that lay within the seemingly ordinary. Oh, and I still managed a dip!
