Snow Arrives in Aldeburgh
In early February, East Anglia was hit by a substantial amount of snow, accompanied by strong winds of 40mph. The event was nicknamed the 'Beast from the Baltic' by the media.
After being tantalized by the possibility of snow for weeks, the sight of snowfall upon opening the curtains was thrilling. As I had not witnessed snow on the coast before, I was eager to venture out and discover the wintry landscape.
I grabbed my Fujifilm X-Pro1 camera and 35mm lens and headed towards the beach. Although the wind didn't seem too strong at first, it became tumultuous and fierce when I reached the sea wall. By mid-morning, the snowfall intensified significantly. I followed my usual circular route around Aldeburgh, which I often take for my daily exercise. This route covers various excellent locations that offer a great view of the town and its surroundings. With the snow now blanketing much of the landscape, I had the opportunity to experiment with different compositions that I perhaps wouldn't have considered under normal circumstances.
As soon as I got back in the warmth, I made some coffee and imported the images onto my computer.
The coast looked magical and I was delighted with many images I came back with.
I could not fault the little 35mm f2 ‘Fujicron’ lens. It’s light and super fast to focus, even on the X-Pro1, and like the 50mm f/2, it’s sharp, even when shooting wide open.
